Outside of teaching art, I have also been an entrepreneur/ freelance artist. Over the years since 1975 to present I have been in many art shows (trade shows, art fairs, art competitions) including the Minnesota State Fair for 16+ years, the New England show for 9 years and the Renaissance Fairs in Minnesota, Texas, and Colorado. In 1988, I changed the way of doing business; I opened an art studio. At Bandana Square, I opened a retail space for art classes and gallery. From 1988 to 1999, I ran the store/studio/classroom where I acquired numerous commissions to draw, paint or render in calligraphy or watercolors, ink, or acrylics.
Presently I have a studio in St. Paul, Minnesota open only by appointments. I continue to work on some commissions in pen & ink, watercolor, and acrylic paintings, and calligraphy in a variety styles. I also am experimenting in painting with mixed media, ash clay, and oils.
I love nature, architecture, Renaissance artists, and Celtic inspired illuminated scrolling; therefore, much of my artwork has to do with gardens, parks, and a variety of architecture types. Fr. Catish of St. Ambrose College, Donald Jackson and the Celtic illuminators, inspires the calligraphy style. Mary Cassatt, Georgia O’Keeffe, Claude Monet and other Impressionists are my favorite artists; they inspire my painting and drawing styles.
